Julia Maude Foster
Love of country and children characterized Founder Julia Maude Foster. Born into a family of American patriots on March 14, 1875, she spent her childhood in Illinois, Kansas, and Minnesota. She studied at Lombard College for one year, during which she played an integral role in the founding of Alpha Xi Delta. Julia then attended the Minnesota Kindergarten School for three years before embarking on a long teaching career in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she taught in the same school and room for years. She was devoted to serving and educating children and frequently worked with immigrant children, teaching them to love America. Julia's hobbies included dressing porcelain dolls and making doll furniture.Julia remained active within Alpha Xi Delta throughout her life, helping to draft the first Alpha Xi Delta Constitution. She also attended numerous conventions, the last one in 1947. Julia died at the age of 73 in August 1948.
